Abstract

A vaporiser for a liquid is claimed which comprises an open-ended, upright tube partly immersed in the liquid, which fills part of the bore of the tube, a heater for liquid inside the tube and means for restricting heat transfer from the interior to the exterior of the tube, i.e. the tube is pref. made of material with very low thermal conductivity, e.g. ceramic, and/or the tube is sleeved with thermal insulating material, the cross-sectional area of the tube bore can be varied along the axis of the tube so that the effective vaporising surface, and hence rate of evaporation, alter as the level of liquid falls within the tube. Rapid evaporation of liquid insecticides, deodorisers, perfumes, bactericides etc. Very rapid response when switched on and off; the vaporiser can hold a large quantity of liquid but only a limited vol. inside the tube is subjected to vaporising heat.
