Abstract

Phenylbutazone derivs. of formula (I) are new: (Ar = phenyl substd. by an alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzoyl gp., or is naphthyl opt. substd. by methoxy; R=1-6C alkyl; R' = H or lower alkyl or alkoxy; R" = H or CH3). They are prepd. by reacting 4-hydroxymethylphenylbutazone with Ar.CHR".CO.Hal. (I) have powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities and are esp. useful in treatment of gout, neuritis, phlebitis and rheumatic arthritis.
