Abstract

Electrode holder for a plant for remelting metals under an electrically conducting slag, comprising a head carrying the electrode of material to be remelted and a supporting shoe contacting the head and electrically connected to a source of current, is characterised in that the head is in the shape of a C or stirrup surrounding the shoe, the electrode being fixed to the outside of one of the horizontal branches of the C, the second branch being arranged in the form of a tenon. The design provides a rigid support such that heating stresses due to temp. differences do not provoke binding between the head and the support causing local burning of the electrical contact and reducing the current throughput.
