Abstract

An arrangement for suspending consumable electrodes in electroslag remelting of metals may be used for furnaces which are fed through an electrode circuit. The arrangement comprises two electrode carrying contact links having the form of coaxially arranged elongate hollow members 1 and 2 insulated from each other by an insulating spacer 3. The hollow members 1 and 2 may be of any suitable cross-section, e.g. round or box shaped. The hollow members 1 and 2 function in a vertical position and are each provided with a contact head portion 4, 5 for connection to different terminals of a single-phase transformer. The contact head portions may be wedge shaped or frusto-conical with an upwardly facing base. The arrangement may be utilized as an electrode holder or electrode head. The hollow members may be provided with cross members 7, 8 at the lower portion thereof for suspending electrodes, and the electrodes may be attached directly to the hollow members, e.g. by welding. <IMAGE>
