Abstract

Air to be tested is continuously passed through a cooled storage column which is filled with an adsorbent and is periodically heated to drive off the adsorbed gas. During its enrichment phase the storage column is cooled to a temperature between -20 deg. and -80 deg.C at which methane is not yet retained, and during the heating phase air or hydrogen are passed through the column in the opposite direction, to a flame ionisation detector which determines the amount of adsorbed gas. The cooling is performed by bringing a cooled body into contact with the storage column.
