Abstract

The chopper circuit comprises a thyristor (Th) and a diode (D) in anti-parallel connection across the oscillatory circuit (Co) comprising a capacitor (C) and load inductance (L1, P). A blocking choke (LB) is placed in one line of the d.c. supply. A further choke (L2), independent of the line choke, is placed in series with the diode and serves to change the time of the half period during which the diode is forward biased. The inductance is selected so that half cycle time is greater than thyristor switch off time. The additional inductance (L2) may also be linked with the load (P).
