Abstract

A transducing head steering system in which a head follows a path over adjacent tracks of different servo signal records, and feeds derived signals to a servo circuit including a comparator. The comparator produces error signals to cause the head to be centred on the path and, at periodic intervals along the tracks, the effect of the error signals on the head is suspended. The records in the servo tracks are altered to generate 100% off-track indications in either direction sequentially, and the consequential signals to the comparator are equalised. The path and tracks are endless and there is at least one section of altered record in each track, the sections being sequential on the different tracks.
