Abstract

The foucault or eddy current braking system is for motor vehicles. The design is intended to reduce the length of shaft and associated housing in such a brake arrangement. The stator element is a cylinder having a plane outer surface and an inner surface shaped to take the transmission shaft section splined at each end and coned roller bearings. The bearings are held in place by circlips at each end, the arrangement also serving to trap lubrication grease held in space about the centre section of the shaft. The brake inductor is held as windings in two annular cups are placed back to back, securely held to the stator cylinder.
