Abstract

The ash tray which automatically extinguishes the burning cigarette ends consists of a cylindrical can-shaped container, partially filled with water and fitted with a lid which has a central conical sunken surface with the lower edge of the cone terminating above the water level, and with a hole through the middle, through which the cigarette ash falls into the water, and through which the cigarette end also passes. The sloping sides of the conical part can be used to support the cigarette with its end protruding above the top edge, and the whole arrangement ensures that previously used cigarette ends are not reignited, thus causing undesirable smouldering. A wall mounted design for hospitals, offices etc., can be used.
