Abstract

Articles, such as foodstuffs, are packaged by placing the article on a horizontal band of inelastically stretchable matl., then clamping the band around the edge of the article and deforming it downwards under differential pressure so that a permanent dish-shaped pocket is formed to contain the article; a second, upper band of similar matl. is then placed over the article and the first band and the two bands are bonded together, esp. hot-sealed, around their edges to make an air-tight package. Pref., inverted pockets are also formed in the upper band, so that in fact the upper and lower bands are identically formed. Used for e.g. packaging of bacon.
