Abstract

The detector has an ultrasonic transducer, e.g. a piezoelectric crystal, (W1) which is excited in order to produce ultrasonic oscillations at a transmission frequency (fo). Objects moving w.r.t. this transducer reflect these ultrasonic waves and modify their frequency by the Doppler effect. In the excitation circuit, there is a unit which measures the Doppler frequency shift (fD). This may be a low pass filter (R3C1) with a time constant of the order of fD-1. A bipolar transistor (T1) may be included in the excitation circuit with this filter connected to its base.
