Abstract

Safety device for a pneumatic tyre, comprises multi pocket toroidal insert where each chamber contains >=1 sachet which contains a lubricant and which will rupture if squashed because of deflation of the air chamber(s). Automatic release of the lubricant progressively with deflation inhibits overheating due to friction between adjacent rubber surfaces. The lubricant should be stable to typical vulcanisation temps. and cycles, pref. is a silicone fluid. The sachets should be of polyethylene terephthalate film. The chambers of the insert may be individually pressurised.
