Abstract

The control zone is scanned using a continuous train of optical pulses provided by one of several light emitting diodes (3) and reflected by a mirror onto a respective phototransistor (5) with an electronic switching circuit for cyclic switching of the electric pulse train used for exciting the light-emitting diodes. The progression of the switching circuit is checked by comparing each stage reached by the latter with count signals obtained independently and the circuit is allowed to step onwards to the next stage only upon their concordance, the sequence being stopped and an alarm signal provided when they differ. Pref. during each scanning cycle a test fault is supplied and a further scanning cycle is only initiated if the fault is detected.
