Abstract

A sleeper for a railway track consists of two concrete blocks, one for each railo, interconnected and reinforced by a horizontal metal member. The interconnecting member (E) may be of vertical S section, made from sheet steel, and the embedded ends are each surrounded by a reinforcing wire coil (107). Further flat reinforcing grids are located above (108) and below (109) this coil, parallel with the upper and lower surfaces respectively of the concrete block (B). Rail securing bolts (113) passing through suitable washers or plates, are housed in recesses under the top surface of the concrete, and the top surface may be recessed for attachment clips on the foot of the rail.
