Abstract
Device for incorporating a gas in a liq. is partic. intended for the introduction of oxygen into the liq. contd. in an activated sludge tank of a clarification plant. It comprises a nozzle head, provided with four gas outlet tubes, which is fixed to a vertical, rotating shaft. The fixed gas feed pipe penetrates into the lower part of the head and widens out to form a gas distribution chamber. A perforated disc, rigidly fixed to the envelope, is placed above the head. The envelope is provided with deflectors; an axial agitator is attached to the shaft. The head is arranged so that the outlet tubes only receive gas in certain positions as they rotate; a press. drop is produced which causes a rapid detachment of the gas bubbles from the inclined ends of the tubes. The gas bubbles pass through the perforated disc where they are broken down by the shearing effect of the blades in the agitated zone. The deflectors prevent the formation of a vortex and amplify the turbulence. The intermittent gas feed prevents the formation of large bubbles so that it is incorporated as very fine bubbles with a long dwell time in the liq. It is partic. advantageous if the cylindrical envelope forms part of an assembly in which the liq. receiving the gas circulates through a tubular coil. The dwell time of the gas bubbles in such a coil can be extended at will. The coil should be used when the gas consists of pure oxygen.
