Abstract

The radiator has connections from the engine to a vertical inlet header and to a vertical outlet header. Finned tubes run in a horizontal bank between the two headers. A buffer chamber is placed vertically alongside the inlet header and separated from it by a wall. It has an air discharge pipe opening to atmosphere and a screwed filler opening in its top. A cylindrical valve body runs through the upper part of the buffer space with a non return valve through which fluid and air pass from the header to the buffer space when the pressure in the radiator rises. A similar non return valve near the bottom of the radiator returns fluid when the pressure in the radiator drops.
