Abstract

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of bufadienolide or bufatrienolide ethers which have cardiac activity and the formula in which X is a double bond between C atoms 4 and 5 or is the epoxy group, R' is a methyl, formyl or methylol group, R'' is a hydrogen atom, and R is hydrogen, a straight-chain or branched alkyl radical with 1 to 16 C atoms, a straight-chain or branched alkenyl radical with 2 to 6 C atoms, an ethynyl radical, an alkoxyalkyl group with in each case 1 or 2 C atoms in the alkoxy and alkyl moieties, an aromatic or araliphatic radical, the dimethylaminomethyl, dimethylaminoethyl, diethylaminoethyl, morpholinoethyl, tetrahydrofuryl, bromoethyl or chloromethyl radical, or R and R'' can together with the adjacent C atom form a cycloaliphatic ring with 6 to 12 C atoms, from corresponding bufadienolide or bufatrienolide glycosides.
