Abstract

The control valve described allows the passage of a liquid of given density but prevents the flow of liquids of other densities. It also acts as a non-return valve and can be used to prevent overfilling of containers. A preloaded float responds to the density of the liquid entering one chamber and actuates a secondary valve to admit the liquid to a second chamber and determine the pressure balance between the chambers independently of the absolute pressure level. A membrane transmits the force resulting from the pressure differential between the chambers to the main valve. A bleed screw arrangement regulates the rate of opening and closing of the main valve.
