Abstract

The counter sprung retractable step ladder for foil access embodies ladder posts or longitudinal members of multiple interhinging (6, 7) scissor frames (1) bearing rungs (2) at each scissor fulcrum (6) with ladder expansion as the hinged (3) trap door (5) opens or vice versa being contrived by fixing (8, 9) an intermediary (i.e. non-terminal) ladder hinge (7) to extending and rotating trap door tie members which slide in rails (10) mounted on each hinge normal slide of the trap door (5). The ladder top fixes to the trap door frame. Tie members are also hinge (13) fixed to this frame at the opposite end to that of trap door hinge and ladder connection. Tie members comprise inter-telescoping tubular elements (12) with limited travel and containing traction springs. Further traction springs (15) triangulate between each tie (12) and fixed cantilever arms (16) emanating from tie fulcrums (13).
