Abstract

The stator (1) has an inner surface (2) constructed from three straight sections (3a, 3b, 3c) joined by three rounded sections (4a, 4b, 4c). A cylindrical rotor (6) fits tightly to the straight sections leaving working spaces (13a, 13b, 13c) in the rounded sections. Each of these has an inlet port (9a, 9b, 9c) and a discharge port (10a, 10b, 10c). The rotor contains a vane (8) with a sealing strip (7a, 7b) at each end. The vane can slide along a diameter of the rotor and turns with the rotor, sweeping fluid from each inlet to the corresponding discharge port. The distance across the stator along a rotor diameter is the same at all angular positions of the vane and this geometry ensures that the vane remains in tight contact with the stator without the use of springs.
