Abstract
Measurements of humidity in substances such as tobacco are performed by circulating a current of hot air at a known temperature through the substance and then determining the loss of weight. Weights for the container maintain a calibrated weight thus simplifying measurements. Air from a blower is passed down a tube containing a heating element. The heated air passes through a diffuser to a drying container (5) and to a thermometer. The container contains a given weight of substance (51) and has a metallic grid bottom (50) through which the air can pass. A handle (52) screwed onto a threaded shaft (54) on the container has a hollow section (55) enclosed by a screw (56) and contains weights (57) to compensate for changes of container weight during usage.
