Abstract

An appts. for mixing in constant proportions, liqs. coming from different pipes, in which they flow at different rates and under different pressures, incorporates a means of reducing the dia. of one of th pipes and installing a porous disc, to reduce the pressure in that pipe the same value as that in the other. The disc can be in sintered metal, fine mesh or other material giving the required press. drop. Partic. for mixing a stream of softened water (0 degrees) with a stream of hard water (35 degrees) to give a stream of constant known hardness (7-10 degrees). The appts. gives a mixt. of constant compsn. whereas existing appts. using valves, gives mixts. of varying compsns., e.g. hardness 10-12 degrees at mean flow rate, 20 to 30 degrees at low rate.
