Abstract

The liquid-cooled electrical machine has axially parallel ribs (2) along the outside of its housing. The ribs are hollow (5) and are arranged for coolant flow. The ends of the hollow ribs are threaded to accept the clamping bolts (6) that hold the machine two end plates onto the main housing. The clamping bolts are also hollow and have short tubes (7) passing through them to allow the coolant to enter and leave the channels in the ribs. Radial inlet and outlet tubes (9) may be used instead of, or as well as the axially-parallel inlet and outlet tubes. The cooling system is intended for electric machines with which air cooling is undesirable or insufficient.
