Abstract

An embossing roll comprises pref. a metal cone covered with a rubber compsn. (e.g. nitrile rubber) which itself is coated with a layer of fluorocarbon (e.g. polytetrafluoromethylene), whereby the fluorocarbon layer constitutes the outer surface of the roll; this outer surface having a profiled pattern. The embossing roll is based particularly for embossing longitudinal grooves in an extruded plastic film, whereby the film can be ripped along the grooves and fibrillated to produce fibres. The fluorocarbon surface layer prevents the plastic film from sticking to the roller.
