Abstract

Stable, hardened gelatine granules, is prepd. in >=1 cycle of the following steps: (1) prepg. an aqs. gelatine dispersion, (2) lowering the pH to 4.5-5.0, (3) adding an alkali metal salt, pref. an Na salt, esp. Na2SO4, (4) lowering the pH to the coagulation pt. of the gelatine and (5) adding a hardener, pref. formaldehyde, and at any of the above steps, adding a hardening accelerator, pref, phloroglucinol. The process also allow the stable granules to be subsequently coated - by a similar process - with one or more concentric layers contg. various reactants so that the thus coated granules can be used for a determined sequence of chemical or physico-chemical reactions. The granules, coated with layers contg. photographic reactants, e.g. couplers, physical development nuclei, Ag halides etc., are particularly for use in photographic prods., esp. for diffusion-transfer materials.
