Abstract
The auxiliary wing (2) is fitted to a conventional Rogallo type hang glider, which is composed of lateral spars (3 & 4) forming a V which is bisected by a third spar (5). The auxiliary wing frame consists of a spar (6) slung beneath the main spar (5). It is hinged to the leading point of spar (5) by means of a special U-bracket and forms an angle of 5 deg. with this spar, being held at this angle by front and rear spacers. Each spacer is in two halves, hinged halfway along their lengths and at their attachment points to spars (5 & 6) so that they can be folded with the rest of the machine for transport. The auxiliary wing is preferably made from plastic and is bonded to the main wing.
