Abstract

A timber handling and cutting device consists of a pair of forks interconnected by a horizontal spindle, each fork consisting of an L shaped member (1, 3) with a pivot arm (2) attached to the top which when swung upwards, forms a U shaped member, lying on its side, in combination with the L shaped member. These are advanced towards a timber stack, and grip a bundle of logs when the pivot arms are swung down by an actuator (5) at the rear of each. After travelling towards a discharge position, a circular saw (6) supported between the forks, cuts the logs in half and the pivot arms are operated to release the cut portions. Alternative designs include a chain saw instead of a circular saw.
