Abstract
The transducer head can be located in one of four different positions relative to the magnetic tape, each position corresponding to one pair of recording tracks. The head is moved automatically from one position to the next at the end of each pair of recording tracks. For mono playback, where each of the two transducer head air gaps is associated with one of two sets of four tracks, the airgap associated with the required track set is automatically determined, and electrical connection between the other airgap and the signal processing and reproduction circuits is broken, via an electronic switching circuit.
