Abstract

Optical fibre of pref. circular section of the type having a core surrounded by a sheath the refractive index of which is less than that of the core such that the core transmits luminous wave by successive reflections at the common interface, is made by coating the core with a first layer of the same matl. as the core before applying the second layer. The quality of the reflecting surface does not depend on the quality of the surface finish of the core but on that obtd. by deposition of the first layer, and the adhesion between the two types of glass can be better controlled.
