Abstract

Organosol compns. comprise colloidal suspensions of fluorocarbon (co)polymers of particle size 4-6 mu in a liquid medium comprising (a mixt. of) organic solvents in which the (co)polymer is insoluble at 20-25 degrees C but soluble at the temp. of the fluorinated film formation, e.e. 120-200 degrees C. The compn. contain >=45% solids and has a viscosity of 2-100 poises. The compn. can contain >=60% solids, cf. 20% when using prior art solvents, e.g. DMF, THF, etc. and forms films with improved physical properties. Addition of dimethyl phthalate to the compn. results in a certain degree of thioxotropy which contributes to improved stability. (cf. prior art where irreversible gelation occurred).
