Abstract

The lead acid accumulator charging is designed to optimise the level at which the charging is carried out and minimising the risk of electrolyte hydrolysis and consequent loss in lifetime of such batteries. The process interrupts the charging current periodically and measures the fall in potential at the battery terminals and also monitors the charging current level such that it does not exceed the battery acceptable level. The individual battery or bank of such batteries (BA) forms part of a control loop and is fed from a ballast circuit (B) including thyristor power stage controlled from an integrating system (S) limiting the current (Ic) to the batteries. The battery output circuit feeds the sampling circuit (E), the voltage measurement stage (T) and the comparison circuit (S).
