Abstract

Each phase conductor in the poly-phase network has a device which produces a voltage proportional to the voltage between it and a neutral point in the network, and another device which produces a voltage which images the amperage across the phase conductors. These two voltages form together a pair of conjugate voltages and each pair is sampled in cyclic succession using a multiplaner. A signal is then produced which is proportional to the instantaneous product of the two voltages, using a multiplier, and the signal is separated into a first d.c. component (the 'real' powe component) and a second component (the 'virtual' power component) which contains the harmonics of the network frequency.
