Abstract

Small, expansible styrene polymer particles contain, as blowing agent, 5-15, pref. 8-14 wt.% of a mixt. of two non-inflammable halogenated hydrocarbons, one boiling at 0 degrees C and the other boiling at >0 degrees C but below the softening pt. of the polymer, both contg. >=1 F atom per mole. The particles have good expansion and processing characteristics and form mouldings with high dimensional stability. Fire hazards during transport are eliminated.
