Abstract

A plastic filter comprises a pref. transparent housing into which fits a frame supporting an absorbent filter. The housing is a rectangular box completely open at one end, the other end having an inlet connection. The upper and lower walls of the housing can have a concave shape between the two side walls. A groove is made in the end wall to receive the flange of the filter element, the inlet connection being offset from this groove. The open end of the housing has a shoulder. Inside this housing fis the filter element which comprises an end plate with integral outlet connection, designed to sit against the shoulder at the open end of the housing, a hollow hexagonally shaped support structure covered with filter material which stretches the length of the housing and an open end with flange to sit in the groove of the inlet end of the housing. The filter material has a pore size 0.1 x 14 micrometers. The filter is used for filtering solutions to be intravenously injected into patients. It is made in 2 mouldable parts for easy assembly. Absorbent filter material prevents air passing through when wetted with the solution. If it becomes air locked can be purged by withdrawing the tube on the inlet side.
