Abstract

The parent patent described a process for the recovery of moulding sand covered with combustible foreign substances, e.g. shell moulding sand, by heating, where the heating was carried out on one or more vibratory conveyor chutes arranged in a row. In the present invention, after treatment in the vibratory conveyor, the hot sand is processed in a fluidised bed. The air used in the fluidised bed is pref. preheated by the heat arising from the recovery process. In the pref. plant, the vibratory conveyor chute(s) is/are followed by at least one fluidised bed fitted with transverse baffles and bodies made of a thermal insulant the dia and / or density of which is greater than that of the sand. The amt. of sand flowing through the plant can be increased and the operating temp. lowered, thus reducing the processing costs.
