Abstract

Crosslinking agents for EPDM rubbers and/or butyl rubbers consist of dinitroso cpds. having a urethane group of formula: ON-R-Z-CO-NH-C-NH-CO-Z-R-NO (where X is alkyl or aryl; Z is O or NH; and R is aryl). Give vulcanised prods. with a higher tensile strength and elongation at break than conventional crosslinking agents. The hardness is also lower. Can be used with sulphur, if desired. The rubber pref. contains 1.0-3.5 mole % double bonds. The concn. of the crosslinking agent is pref. 0.5-15, esp. 1-10 pts. wt. per 100 pts. wt. rubber.
