Abstract

A first electrode (11) contacts the sheath of an electrical conductor (13) at two points on the circumference of the wire. A second electrode (15) can be brought to and moved away from the first, and grips a support sheet (16) against the sheath of the conductor (13) at a point midway between the points on the sheath with which the first electrode is in contact. A radio frequency voltage is applied to the electrodes. The shortest paths from the wire to the support band of the first electrode to the second electrode do not cross the wire core. The radio frequency source applied to the electrodes heats the sheath and the support band and produces a weld at their interface.
