Abstract

The stator of this traction motor is a polygon with permanent magnet poles on six of the eight faces. The bare faces are symmetrically opposed. The rotor has three poles with large mass end-faces spaced away from the centre axis. These end poles also carry flat windings. The large diameter of these poles avoids flux dispersion, ensures a good recuperation of the motor energy and acts as a force accumulator. This design permits starting with reduced current, suppresses passive resistance and increases motor power.
