Abstract

Expansible plastic matl. consists of (I) a thermoplastic polymer prepd. by grafting styrene onto an olefin polymer, and (II) a blowing agent consisting of a low MW org. cpd. pref. a mixt. of 2 pbw pentane and 5 pbw methylene chloride, or of 3 pbw pentane. Expanded particles are used as fillers for light concrete, and as reinforcing agents for constructional purposes, e.g. cable tunnels. The particles can be ground and used as a filler in dispersion paints. The expansible particles bond together firmly during moulding, or the expanded prods. have a good strength and resistance to solvents.
