Abstract

An extruded plastic tape is treated to produce longitudinal grooves in its surface and pref. after a final drawing process is fibrillated to break the tape along the grooves and produce a mass of fibrilles. Prior to fibrillation the tape is subjected to a main drawing process between e.g. feed and draw rolls to reduce its thickeness. The resulting fibrilles are compacted to make cigarette filters.
