Abstract

A voltage proportional to a sinusoidal supply voltage and a current proportional to the corresponding supply voltage are sampled. During the same sign half periods of the voltage the current values are integrated to obtain a time varying signal (UA) from a first zero value, with a constant slope, of constant sign. Signal (UA) is compared with a step value (E) which is a function of the amplitude of the supply voltage. The slope of (UA) is inverted when it reaches a value equal to the step value (E). The integration is continued till (UA) again reaches the first zero value. The slope of (UA) is again inverted to obtain an output signal of frequency (f) proportional to the power being measured, a count of the number of periods of the output signal allowing the determination of the energy consumed during this time.
