Abstract

One conduit terminates in a bell mouth (T1), with an interval annular seal, inside which fits the other conduit (T2). Inside each pipe is a circular frame (a, b) on the outside of which is an inflatable collar (4), the two frames being connected by three hydraulic cylinders (U, V, W). A toroidal sealing ring (10) is mounted on an extension block (A) on the internal face of one frame. The pipes are offered together, probably with a small angular discrepancy. The inflatable collars are expanded and clamp on the pipe walls. The cylinders are contracted and pull the pipes together. By a process of deflation, cylinder expansion, inflation and cylinder contraction the tubes are pulled together till the sealing ring seals the frames.
