Abstract

Pump inlet protecting cage is intended for use in settlement plants dealing with liqs. which are heavily loaded with impurities. The envelope has a hydrodynamic shape with a leading edge and a symmetrical supporting structure, a rear element and a lower element close the cage on these sides while upper side is open. The lower element is free to oscillate from a point behind the pump in the direction of the circulation of the liq. The rear element can oscillate from a part of the cage above the level of the liq. The elements and the envelope are made from sheet steel or a plastic matl they are perforated with 5 mm square holes. The oscillation of the elements prevents the deposition of solid matter in the pump inlet, even if the perforations are partially blocked, the pump can still draw in a sufficient quantity of liq. Cleaning of the cage is only necessary after a long interval of three months or so, this is a most important factor for control posts of continuous, automatic purificn. stations.
