Abstract

Thermopile designed for the detection of thermal radiation having a basic two element junction of thermo-electric material laid as thin layers on a di-electric substrate this latter bonded to a material capable of absorbing the thermal radiation. The support material, aluminium, is in rectangular in form and has two windows cut in it holding the radiation absorbing elements. A layer of aluminium oxide between 0.2 and 0.5 micro metres thick is the substrate. Hot and cold junctions are connected in seires in a back and forth pattern across the windows such taht alternate junctions lie over the windows and aluminium base material.
