Abstract

The trap is inserted in the axial direction inside the tubular grenade tail, and externally is of truncated cone shape and internally cylindrical and conical, the large end of the cone in each case being towards the opening in the tail. Thus as the bullet penetrates into the trap it is subjected to progressively friction and distortion, before the trap itself starts to distort by swelling. The small end of the truncated cone section can be secured to a damper unit placed right at the base of the tail and absorbing part of the energy from the bullet when this strikes the trap, typically in the form of spring rings releasing at least 30% of the energy absorbed during distortion so as to give additional propulsive force to the grenade.
