Abstract

Two preloaded elastic systems are inserted into the cable run. One starts to elongate under a load which is greater than that required to fully elongate the other. The range of loads between full elongation of one system and the beginning of elongation of the other is the stabilisation range. A cylinder (1), filled with an elastomer (14) under pressure, which forces a piston (10) inwards, is joined to a cylinder (21) by a tube (36). On load, this piston (10) first moves out, compressing the elastomer until it reaches full travel, until the threshold load for compressing the second unit is reached. At higher loads, another piston (25) moves outwards, compressing an elastomer (34) until it too reaches full travel, and the cable is thus maintained in a state of elastic tension.
