Abstract
Reactivation of spherical 0.1-1.0 mm or flaky, active carbon produced from pitch (softening point 50-350 degrees C, carbon content 80-97%; H:C = 0.3-2.5; substances insoluble in nitrobenzene 60%) is carried out by the fluidised bed method, first in a drying and evaporation zone, and then in a reactivation zone. The reactivated carbon is immediately chilled with water. This method is esp. suitable for reactivation of carbon used for purification of aq. effluents, because there is no pulverisation, and, hence, reduction of the bulk volume. Effective cooling after the reactivation is provided.
