Abstract

A catalytic exhaust gas purifier for internal combustion engines consists of a monolithic catalyst element which is surrounded by metallic braiding. A split sheet metal cylinder with an overlapping joint retains the braiding and rests on angled supports welded to the outer housing. Ceramic fibres are arranged as insulator between the metal cylinder and the outer housing. The elastic rings at the end faces thus have to absorb only small displacements. Radial and axial differences in elongation can be absorbed internally and the outer casing only serves as radial retainer and guide for the catalyst.
