Abstract
Electrically conducting material has an adjustable specific electric resistance and is a composite material of dispersed carbon particles, a dielectric filler and a binder. The novelty is that the uniformly dispersed carbon particles have various dimensions below 3 mu and a silicate binder is used, the compsn. of the material being 6.75-85 vol. % dispersed carbon, 1-60 vol. % dielectric filler and 7-85 vol. % silicate binder. The binder is pref. cement, or a mixt. of water glass soln(density 1.32 g/cm3) and sodium fluorosilicate used in the amt. of 9-40 vol. %, or up to 30% of a cement/water glass mixt. The dispersed carbon is pref. graphite and the pref. uses for the material are as resistors, earth-plates, floors for conducting away static electricity, heating elements, or electrostatic plaster coating screens for rooms. A material with a specific electrical resistance of 10-1 to 105 ohm/cm. for mfg. compsn. resistors for high voltage appts. and electric circuits and also constructional elements for buildings, houses and factories. Suitable dielectric fillers are silica sand, corundum, periclase, and, when water glass is used as a binder, granulated blast furnace slag.
