Abstract

Frequency modulated radar techniques are used in distance measuring equipments such as radio altimeters in aircraft. Doppler effects and echo separation effects can be eliminated. A frequency modulated radar system using a common antenna (4) with a circulator (3) transmits the output of an oscillator (1) which has been modulated by a sawtooth waveform from a radial sweep wobbulator (10). This wobbulator controls a pulse generator (13) to delay the start of the sawtooth waveform. It also blocks an amplifier (7) in the receiver and unblocks the doppler measurement amplifier (14) at the mixer (6) output. The signal proportional to speed is applied to a sweep delay (15) circuit for the cathode ray tube thus correcting for doppler effects. The speed of the aircraft is indicated (16).
